En la presentación que TERRA hará el día 28 de febrero a las 19h00 en el Centro Español (27, rue de Strasbourg), hablarán de la historia de este centro agroecológico en el que producen tanto verduras como frutas orgánicas. Además, TERRA es un hermoso espacio donde poder aprender y experimentar con un tipo diferente de agricultura; una que respeta tanto a la Naturaleza como a los seres humanos.
Desde principios de 2014, la gente de TERRA se ha estado preparando el suelo de un huerto (bastante bonito, por cierto) de 1,5 hectáreas en Eicherfeld, a sólo 10 minutos del centro de Luxemburgo. Una amplia variedad de árboles frutales, perfectamente espaciados (diez metros de distancia entre árboles), permite cultivar hileras de verduras perennes y anuales, hierbas y flores beneficiosas, creando así un sistema agrícola flexible y diverso que imita el equilibrio y la biodiversidad encontrados en un ecosistema natural. El producto se distribuye directamente a nuestros miembros a través de un esquema CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) y, por lo tanto, evita la necesidad de los mayoristas y elimina los costos financieros y ambientales que implica la importación de alimentos de zonas más lejanas. En lugar de pagar un precio fijo por kilo, los miembros pagan por adelantado el servicio de agricultura y, por lo tanto, le permiten al productor planificar anticipadamente y minimizar el desperdicio de producción.
TERRA también les da la oportunidad a los miembros de conectarse con sus alimentos y las personas que los produjeron. Una variedad de talleres, seminarios, festividades y otros eventos permiten una experiencia verdaderamente participativa que crea una nueva cohesión social en torno a nuestra necesidad más esencial: ¡LA COMIDA!

TERRA, an agroecological centre in the heart of Luxembourg
In this presentation we will be sharing the story of TERRA, an agroecological centre which produces fresh organic fruit and vegetables, as well offering a beautiful space for learning and experiencing a different kind of agriculture, one that respects nature and humans.
Since early 2014, the people of TERRA have been busy preparing the soil at a beautiful 1.5 hectare orchard in the Eicherfeld, just 10 minutes away from Luxembourg City. A wide range of traditional varieties of fruit trees, perfectly spaced at 10m apart, allow for rows of perennial and annual vegetables, herbs and beneficial flowers to be cultivated in-between, thus creating a resilient and diverse agricultural system that mimics the balance and biodiversity found in a natural ecosystem. The produce is then distributed directly to our members through a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) scheme and therefore bypasses the need for wholesalers and eliminates the financial and environmental cost involved in importing food from far away.
Rather than paying a fixed price per kilo, members pay for the service of agriculture in advance and therefore enable the producer to plan ahead as well as minimise the waste of production. TERRA also gives the opportunity to members to connect with where their food comes from and the people that produced it. A variety of workshops, seminars, festivities and other events allow for a truly participatory experience that creates a new social cohesion around our most essential need: FOOD!
